Insulator Classifications
The norm DIN EN 60085 specifies the classification of insulation materials in electrical applications. This classification applies to both electrical insulation materials (EIM) and electrical insulation systems (EIS), which are specified in regards to their maximum operating temperature. The aim is to ensure that an electrical component will not encounter failure or destruction because of thermal degradation of the insulation materials during the designed life time.
