Nomex® Pill Carpet

Pill carpet for effective cooling of the magnetic cores in power transformers

Traditionally, rigid laminate sticks are still used to provide cooling channels between the transformer sheets of the magnetic core. This cooling channel construction still has the disadvantage that due to external stress such as shocks during transport, through fault currents or similar, the laminate strip move out of position and cause collapsing of the cooling channel.

The following failed sources / errors are obvious:

  • Damaged cooling medium caused overheating in the transformer core
  • Damaged cooling channels increased core vibrations, which reduce the short-circuit resistance

With the pill carpet we are following a different, more innovative approach, which helps to protect our transformers against these influences.

The structure of the pill carpet is as follows:

  • The Nomex® paper 356, thikness 0,13 mm, is used as the basic material
  • On the base material = Nomex® paper 356 half cut
  • ceramic pills are glued
  • Afterwards the final produced pill carpet will be cut in accordance with your requirements of core sheet dimensions and delivered to you.

In comparison of the traditional cooling systems with rigid laminate sticks –

our pill carpets instead offer you the following advantages for your transformers:

  • Cooling ducts can no longer move in wrong directions. Cooling function remains conserved over the complete life time of your transformer
  • Reduced vibrations and noise emissions
  • Improved cooling properties through multidirectional oil flows
  • Reduced manufacturing costs / time
  • Increased short-circuit strength
